How to Write a Computer IT/IS Managers Resume

Resume writing for technology management positions must focus on building confidence in a prospective employer. IT (Information Technology) or IS (Information Systems) Managers are charged with managing computer systems, networks, and the technology required to operate, develop, research and produce for business. This position can require working with or supervising many employees including systems analysts, programmers, research departments, support staff, purchasing, accounting, data storage personnel and other workers. Examples of teamwork skills and management skills should be stated.

IT and IS Managers plan, purchase, coordinate, maintain and facilitate technology for business.

Because these positions often require interaction with a variety of employees, vendors, and clients communication skills are needed. Most positions also demand problem solving skills.

Resume writing for these positions involves matching your skills specifically with the employers’ needs with statements that include the experience you have with software and operating systems the employer is using. Employers usually post the nature of the position and the specific desired experience with the software and operating systems in use and other duties. You need as much information about the job description and specific employer needs as possible. Use the employer’s job posting and any other information you can collect about the position and see how to write a resume for a specific job. Your cover letter and resume should satisfy the employer needs for technical skills and your interviews should be fact finding missions.

Depending on the nature of the position, IT Manager for an accounting firm for example, you need to express your business skills that are relevant to the company’s business. Many IT/IS skills are transferable from one type of business to another, but an understanding of accounting procedures and client communications would give you an edge for an accounting business.

Your knowledge, skills, abilities should be supported by education and experience. Your experience should be stated in terms of quantifiable statements of support. For example:

Maintained systems for 144 employee brokerage firm with less than seven hours downtime in three years.

Additional statements that directly support your technical skills help build confidence in the resume reader. Statements about any projects you have estimated and/or stayed within budget or when you exhibited profit oriented thinking are also helpful.

Use power words to reinforce your skills and abilities.

Demonstrate your desire to stay abreast of new technology and make a statement of the amount of time you spend weekly reviewing technology news and name your resources.

Your education should be inclusive of all relevant courses, certifications, and degrees.

Use a cover letter that illuminates your skills that the employer desires.
