Resume How to Tips and Zen
Resume how to tip 1: Become the resume! How hard is that? Is not the resume all about you anyway? Yes and that is exactly what is wrong! You are the resume. How can you comprehend the metaphysical aspects of your statements? You cannot have an unbiased opinion about what you are stating. So what can you do?
How to tip 2: Become the employer. This tip requires some Zen meditation: imagine you have a company and want to hire someone with your skills. A method to help you do this is to type a fictitious name on your resume, print a copy, and now imagine receiving this from an applicant. What is this person saying? Are they represented well? What can you tell about this person from their resume? Would you call that candidate for an interview?
How to tip 3: Get the insights of a qualified third party. You do not get feedback from rejected resumes. You need to know what impression you are making. Even if you have had a professional create yours, have another independent pair of eyes review it. If possible request or pay a career coach, HR employee, or business owner review it. Be prepared to hear the truth about what they think. Like what they say or not, when the person that counts reads your resume, he or she might be thinking the same things and you will never know.
How to tip 4: To know your resume is to know yourself. Make the adjustments and changes needed. Your resume should reflect you. Do not create a resume that is so far from who you are, you will not be able to answer questions from employers about your resume. You should know your resume like you know yourself.
How to tip 5: Your cover letter can have more impact on an employer than your resume. Cover letters are most always read before resumes.
