How to Write a Labor Resume
“Laborer” has taken on new meaning in the 21st century and your labor resume writing should be specific in listing your skills and types of jobs you’re qualified for. In the past, labor jobs might have required little skill and lots of muscle; today many jobs require experience or training.
When you begin your job search, start by identifying the different types of labor jobs for which you have experience and training, as well as the various jobs you might like to consider. The different types of work can be divided into several categories; Material movers, construction workers, industrial truck and machine operators and agricultural workers. Let’s take a closer look at each category.
• Material Movers – These jobs require workers to move materials over short distances in factories, docks, construction areas and warehouses. Operators use heavy machinery and laborers manually handle stock and materials. The job might also include cleaning machinery, packing products and materials and other related duties.
• Construction Workers – These jobs are performed on building, highway and tunnel construction sites. They vary widely and can require moderate to advance training. Laborers often assist skilled artisans.
• Industrial Truck and Machine Operators – Workers operating and assisting with industrial machines usually work in factories, construction sites, and storage yards.
• Agricultural Workers – Laborers in the food production industries include farm workers, ranch hands, foresters and fisherman. Laborers deal with a wide range of duties in each industry.
Many laborers have worked in different settings and gained experience and skill in various areas. . Carefully read and research the job requirements in the job listing. It is often a good idea to call and ask specific questions about the job you’re interested in before you start your resume writing. You should emphasis the skills you’ve used in past jobs which match the needs of the job you are presently seeking.
Employers want to fill positions so they can get the work done. Your labor resume should clearly show prospective bosses that you have the skills needed to perform the job and you are the best candidate for the position. Knowing what the job requirements are before you write your resume will great improve your chances of getting the job.
